Who are we?
Travelpet was founded by a travel enthusiastic Finnish veterinarian. The purpose of the website is to gather together information about traveling with pets and ease the access to information as travel-related information is scattered across various authorities and websites. The motivation behind creating this company stems from a personal interest in animals and travel, as finding necessary information has sometimes been challenging even from the perspective of an experienced traveler. The website is primarily intended for pet owners to facilitate planning trips with their pets, whether it's a short visit to a neighboring country or an extended stay abroad. When traveling with a pet, there are many different factors to consider, and depending on the destination, there may be unexpected things for both the pet and its owner.

The Travelpet website has compiled information from trip planning with your pet to returning home. The information is sourced for example from various authorities in different countries, airline and ferry company websites, as well as personal experiential knowledge. The aim is to continuously add and update information, but Travelpet does not guarantee the timeliness and accuracy of all freely available information. In a purchased travel consultation, we always verify the latest information and ensure its accuracy at that given moment. Otherwise, it is the responsibility of the pet owner planning the trip to independently check current vaccinations, travel documents, entry restrictions, weight limits, crate sizes, and other relevant details before departure. Whenever possible, the original source of the information is provided alongside the information on the Travelpet website, making it easy to directly access up-to-date updates, for example, from the airline's website.

The information found on the website is often described from the perspective of a Finnish pet and a pet owner - after all (Finland being part of the EU) the most of the information stands for all EU-countries! If you're not sure wether some regulations or suggestions found are specific for Finland or are common within all EU-countries, don't hesitate to ask!
A few words about the founder of Travelpet
Hello!
Great to see that you have found your way to Travelpet's website! Warm welcome! I'm Emma, a Licentiate of Veterinary Medicine and the founder of Travelpet. I come originally from Kuopio (Central-Easter Finland), but I moved to Helsinki in 2012 and have spent several years of my life abroad. I am a passionate traveler and love animals and nature. I've had dogs and horses as my own pets for almost my entire life. In veterinary medicine, I am particularly interested in small animal internal medicine and infectious diseases and their prevention in pets. Of course, I am also interested in how I can help pets and their owners make traveling comfortable and safe. In my Final Thesis of the Vet school I focused on infectious diseases and ectoparasites in rescue dogs adopted from abroad to Finland.
I have graduated as a veterinarian from the University of Helsinki, Finland, but already during my studies I was interested in exploring the world and learning about different veterinary practices outside of Finland. I had the opportunity to participate in student exchanges in Hungary and later in Spain. I have traveled almost around the globe, doing various internships and charity work in Europe but also in countries such as Peru, Ecuador, and Costa Rica. During these trips, I have had the chance to meet many skilled veterinarian colleagues who have helped us at Travelpet to provide accurate and practical information about veterinary practices in different countries, and with whom we can continue to collaborate in the future.

Currently, in addition to working at Travelpet, I work as a locum municipal veterinarian and provide content for a pet app. While my main focus as a municipal veterinarian is on small animals, I also have experience with horses, cows, pigs, and other animals. I have previously worked as a temporary inspection veterinarian on multiple occasions.
